Good news! DFO has decided to open coho and pink salmon fishing on the Skeena Watershed. Please see the latest DFO Notice here. Remember to check DFO's website before going fishing. Rules and regulations can change anytime.
At the present moment the limit for coho salmon is 1 fish over 50cm and 1 fish under 50cm per day. The limit for pinks is 2 per day. Chinook fishing is closed. Sockeye fishing on the Skeena and Babine is also closed.
The Bulkley is in great shape (we are getting a bit of rain which is good). Coho have been caught at Trout Creek and Telkwa. Pink fishing has also been decent in Telkwa thus far. Use Blue Fox spinners, Colorado Blades for best results for coho fishing. Pink Crocs are the weapon of choice to catch pinks. Some steelhead have been caught on the Bulkley as well. Reports of early Steelhead being caught west of Smithers as well.
Lots of pinks and coho entering the system. The river was at .85 this morning (Sunday morning) and went up to 1.1 this afternoon. Went from very low and clear too dirty. we need the water so we will take it!
Blown out
More and more coho entering the Kitimat. The Douglas Chanel is loaded with coho this year. Good news...
Forgive me for my absence with the salt water report as of late. Ive been on the ocean where it's tough to get a cell signal, let alone send an email! The reason i've been out on the water so much is that the fishing is still really hot on the ocean. We've seen some great salmon action over the past couple of weeks with Hogust in full swing. There are lots of coho around and you can still get into those late season BIG springs. I've had reports of lots of 30+ springs taken from Dundas all the way down to the end of the Douglas Channel.
It's never too late to learn something new or get better! Don't miss out on this course folks! To book please email us or call the shop! Only a few spots available so book now.
